Types of Towbars

There are different types of towbars that you can have installed on your motorhome.

Fixed Flange Towbar: a cost-effective and versatile option to tow different things and weights. The tow ball bolts onto a plate with heavy-duty bolts, so you can add bumper protector plates or flange-mounted cycle carriers, letting you tow and carry at the same time.

Fixed Swan-Neck Towbar: a tow bar bolted in place that is less likely to interfere with parking sensors and is suitable for all tow ball-mounted accessories.

Detachable Swan-Neck Towbar: a towbar that looks exactly like the fixed swan-neck but can be detached when not required and re-attached when needed.

Custom-Made Towbars

Often, the tow bar you want or need isn’t a generic fit and therefore requires a more specialist approach. Obstructions such as water tanks, pipes, and the spare wheel must be considered, along with the motorhome's dimensions.

How to Tow With Your Motorhome

Make sure you’re towing in accordance with your driving licence, as the date that you passed your test can affect the towing that you’re able to do
Ensure that whatever you’re towing is fitted with a corresponding and legal licence plate
Take the time to understand not only your motorhome’s towing capabilities, but also that of the tow bar too, as this will dictate how heavy your towing load can be
Check towing legislation for the UK, and for any countries you intend to travel in with your motorhome and trailer
